Whether its drinking hazelnut coffee or cherry flavored cough syrup, mind you eccentricities might be more important in our lives than we realize. I have met many people and made great first impressions but if I go back in time and look for that particular moment when I really bonded with someone, it would inevitably be some incident where we were guilty of indulging in one of our "not-so-famous" habits. For example, while working in the lab, I always have my earphones on and that too at full volume. I love music but sometimes I just do it so that people leave me alone. Yeah, everyone's done that one time or the other..;)
So, one afternoon in the lab, this person comes and asks me where the music was coming from? Yes, the volume in my earphones was so high that it was audible even to this guy standing a few feet away from me. But alas, instead of telling me that the music was disturbing him, he starts talking about how he was a fan of classic rock and in fact, the song I was listening to was one of his favorites. I spent almost that entire afternoon discussing classic rock with this guy and ended up getting an entire collection of songs (far greater than what I could have ever gathered myself). Not only that, every time he downloaded anything new (music or movies), he made sure to get a copy for me. And that was just the beginning of one of the most beautiful friendships that I have come to cherish, because as time went by, we just started talking about anything and everything.
More importantly, this incident or my eccentricity gave me memories that I can fondly look back to and say, it is more than acceptable to listen to music while you are working, even if most people consider it against the "normal" corporate etiquette. Though don't let your boss catch you doing that. Thats just a recipe for disaster. ;) So, yeah at worst these harmless quirks can get you into minor troubles. Nothing a little sense of humour cannot handle. ;) But at best, you'll probably make some new friends and get an envious collection of songs for free...:)
